Organic Lions Mane (8:1)

Lion’s Mane grows on hard woods with it’s tiny spines cascading down to resemble a white beard, traditionally used for digestive health, liver function and cognition, with research* promoting it’s potency for cognitive health, memory, mood and nerve health and sporting potent anti-oxidants with the potential to aid immune function, blood sugar and digestion, it truly is a premium adaptogen.

A smart lion that helps you roar.

  • Adaptogen; helping the body adapt to stress, allowing for an increased tolerance to mental exhaustion, enhancing attention and mental endurance.
Immunomodulator; strengthening, balancing, supporting and regulating the immune system, optimising immune response.

Lions Mane is a mushroom that definitely lives up to its lion-i-ness. Used for 1000’s by herbalists from Traditional Chinese Medicine to support the digestive system, reduce inflammation and boost the immunes system.

Lions Mane contains large amounts anti-oxidants (beta-glucans and polysaccharides) which help to support the immune system in functioning optimally in a similar way that all other medicinal mushrooms do, but the part of Lions Mane that touts its uniquity among its fellow mushroom folk, is its ability to support the brain and nervous system, it does this by helping to repair and regenerate neurons, and in turn promoting cognition. How, well, the body has Nerve Growth Factor (NGF) protiens responsible for stimulating growth and also protecting neurons within the nervous system, helping them function properly. The hericenones within Lions Lane can help promote NGF, in addition to that, the Erinacines within Lions Mane can promote NGF within the brain as they are small enough to cross the blood brain barrier (a barrier responsible for making sure all the bad invaders stay out of the brain and don’t cause us harm).

The research is quite extraordinary promoting it as a nootropic powerhouse, making it the biohacker and everyday individuals choice for brain health, mood, immune function and gut health, plus many other health benefits attributed to its anti-oxidants including the potential to; help reduce cholesterol, support the immune system, help balance blood sugar and digestion, as well as helping promote wound healing when used topically.

It is important to note that while all of the anti-oxidants are bioavailable when water extracted, the erinacines are only bioavailable when the mushroom has been alcohol extracted. Our Lions Mane has been dual extracted with water and alcohol to make sure that we have access to all the compounds for optimal health.

Lions Mane has been suggested to have the potential to act as an anti-depressant, by balancing out the neurotransmitters responsible for depression. (20).

Studies suggest that Lions Mane has the ability to increase levels of Superoxide Dismutase (SOD) in human metabolism which helps reduce the accumulation of “lipofuscin” (a metabolic waste product that accumulates as we age). (12, 14)

It has been suggested that Lions Mane may help increase time to exhaustion in extended exercise environments, by making more glycogen available to tissues and increasing anti-oxidative enzyme activity, while also helping to reduce lactic acid and urea nitrogen which contribute to the onset of fatigue. (12)

Lions Mane polysaccharides had the ability to stimulate Macrophages which are part of the bodies immune response against infection. Where the beta-glucans have the ability to “induce” the maturation of dendritic cells, which are key in helping the body fight pathogens (bacteria / virus). (12, 14, 22)

A 2016 study suggested that Lions Mane had a positive impact mitochondrial function. (10)

By regulating cellular responses Lions Mane has the potential to mitigate the effects of inflammation and cell death as it has an impact on 4 bodily systems (circulatory, digestive, immune system and nerve system) which work together to help maintain homeostasis, thus lions mane has the potential to support complete health through regulation. (9) Another study suggests that Lions Man “systematically” helps the reduction of disease through effecting multiple pathways. (10)

Research suggests that the polysaccharides in Lions Mane have the ability to inhibit multiple negative effects on the gastrointestinal mucosa, helping maintain balance and preventing injury and ulcers. In conjunction with potentially helping mitigate the effects of the Helicobactor pylori gut bacteria, which has the ability to cause serious issues, including; two type of cancer (the rare MALT lymphoma and a stomach cancer called gastric adenocarcinoma) and peptic ulcers. (8, 12, 13, 14, 15, 17, 21)

Research in 2017, suggests that Lions Mane may be used to help mitigate the effects of hyperglycaemic activity in diabetic’s, although they suggest that further research be carries out on humans to understand the mechanism and potential use as a Nutraceutical intervention. (8, 12, 16)

A 2018 study has suggested indicated that supplementing with Lion Mane can help improve recognition memory and motor function when supplements orally, with the potential to be used in neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimers. (4, 10, 12) Research also suggests the reduction of the accumulation of Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) which can cause oxidative stress. (10, 12, 19)

It has been suggested that Lions Mane may provide neuroprotective effects on the brain which can involve neurotransmitter modulation. (10, 12, 18, 19)

Neurotrophic factors are important in promoting the growth and differentiation of neurons. Water extracts of Lions Mane have been shown to have the potential to regenerate peripheral nerves in subjects with crush injuries. (2, 6, 11) Another study illustrates that Lions Mane has the potential to be used in neurological diseases such as alzheimers as it has the ability to increase Nerve Growth Factor (NGF) proteins in the brain. (3, 5, 7, 11, 12, 14, 18, 19)

Lions Mane is organically, sustainably and Di Tao grown in China’s Zhejiang province. In perfectly managed temperature and humidity. The fruiting body is then carefully harvested washed with drinking water for processing.

The Lions Mane is then sorted, machine dried, crushed, sifted, and dual extracted using water and organic ethanol, before being dried and ground to a powder, then bulk packaged ready to send to The Grove HQ.

The product is then put on a ship and sails to Australia and arrives at The Grove HQ approximately 4 weeks later.

Once it arrives at The Grove HQ we carry out quality control (QC) checks and repack it.

    The Life of Lions Mane

Lions Mane grows in dead trees, producing the spectacular white cascading fruiting body. It is quite possibly one of the most powerful tonic ‘herbs’ we have access to, and just so happens to be one of the safest foods in the world. Plus, because Lions Mane grows on dead logs, it can easily be grown organically and accredited.
At The Grove we have gone to great lengths to obtain the highest quality Lions Mane product for you, grown in China as close as possible to how nature intended, and carries the USDA and EU Organic certification for growing, harvesting and processing.

The Grove principles and philosophies are very much aligned with those of Traditional Chinese Medicine. The Chinese tonic herbalist is proactive in their approach to health, rather than treating disease, they carve a path to promote “radiant health” or “health beyond danger”. There is a similar Benjamin Franklin quote "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure". Prevention is cure is something we believe too.

    Best product no doubt

Cannot get enough of the Lions Mane and tremella. I have been combining them in my coffee or breakfast in the morning and cannot get enough. After a couple of weeks I started to notice being more focused, and after about a month I noticed my complexion improve. I have since got my mama a bag of the tremella. She loves it too. Thoughtly recommend the grove. God bless.
