HYDRATING & ANTI-OXIDANT (ANTI-AGING)
To stay looking younger, it is important to keep the skin hydrated, research has found that when cosmetics had 0.05% Tremella polysaccharides (carboxymethylated polysaccharides) added to them they were more moisturising than those with 0.02% added hyaluronic acid, with a moisture retention rate of 65.7% after 96hours. (3, 9, 10, 11) Overproduction of Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) in the skin can cause oxidative stress and DNA damage. Tremella has been suggested to remove 80-87% of the ROS radicals and also have a protective and anti-aging effects on cells. (9, 10, 11) Moreover, when catechin antioxidants (commonly found in matcha) were grafted to the the Polysaccharide anti-oxidant of Tremella, they were found to have a higher radical scavenging effect than the polysaccharides of Tremella alone. SUPEROXIDE DISMUTASE (SKIN REGENERATION)
Various biological activities define ageing, one of which is the decline in our immune function, when our immune system declines many things happen, the most obvious being that we become more susceptible to sickness, but another being that we are more susceptible to inflammation and oxidation, tremella has the ability to increase levels of Superoxide Dismutase (SOD) (in organs, skin being one of our bigger organs) which helps provide an anti-aging response by reducing inflammation and oxidation. IMMUNE HEALTH
New blood cells are generated in the bone marrow though a process called hemopoiesis, (very simply put) if this process or the cells in this process are damaged it can impact proper immune function, oxygenation and removal/transport of waste throughout the body. Tremella has been shown to have the ability to increase the development of neurons within the brain and improve glucose metabolism, energising the brain (“the number of KREB neurons increased by 134%”). Tremella was researched for its ability to aid nerve growth and repair in respect of sciatic nerve regeneration, and found to be effective in the ruction of damage and improvement of functionality. (12)
WHEY AND TREMELLA
While it has been stdied that Tremella may enable the improvement of the solubility of Whey Protien Isolate (WPI) and thus shelf stability for ‘grab and go’ beverages, it may also slow the digestion of WPI in the gut when consumed with out Tremella. (8)
