Body butter is one of our favourite things to make for ourselves, and something we swear by to help keep our skin soft, supple and protected. Generally, body butter contains no water or less water than a regular moisturising cream making it a lot thicker and also generally a little more oily. Moisturisers are used to form an oily layer on the top of the skin to trap water in the skin, helping to combat the loss of water from and dryness. After making our first batch of body butter and using it for a month or so, we found that it helped soften our skin, clear up dry skin conditions and soften the harder skin in those tougher areas, our feet have never felt better. This got us hooked and now we only use our own.
Cacao Butter and Shea Butter have been used for a very long time in moisturisers to help provide this water trapping component, and has the potential help reduce fine lines and wrinkles, and inflammation, with people using it to help combat eczema and psoriasis (although there is no research confirming its ability to aid this).
Since our first batch we've added the Organic Medicinal Mushrooms Reishi and Tremella, both are extraordinary when used topically with research suggesting a capacity to aid wound healing, support collagen production and hydrate.
This is an oily butter and takes a little while to absorb, making it great as a luxurious overnight treatment. The best part, you know exactly what goes into it and by making it yourself it allows you to make exactly what you'd like even when it comes to the scent, using your favorite essential oils, some of which are also great for the skin; frankensense (anti-aging or damaged), lavender (reduce inflammation), chamomile (sensitive skin), rose hip (hydrating) and lemon (dry skin) – making it great to enable you to personalise it to exactly what you need as an individual. This butter also makes a great gift.
We hope you enjoy it as much as we do. :) x
